There are many relationship red flags that you should be aware of. Let me tell you a little story that happened to one of my dearest, closest friends. I am going to call her Elizabeth, just to keep her privacy. You could see that Mike was going to be a problem even before they became an item. After Elizabeth put up with him for longer than she should have, she finally kicked him to the curb. She was thinking about giving him another shot as she still loves him.

However, right before she leaped back in she found out a dirty little secret. He was married! The whole time they were together, he was lying to her. He kept trying to get her to go back out with him, saying how much he loved her. Never once did she stop to ask, is he married. Why would she?

A few of the relationship red flags that she totally overlooked due to her feelings for him might have given her a little suspicion that something was wrong. Below are a few of them that are pretty basic and should never be overlooked.

1. Lying: Mike was a born liar. I wouldn’t say this if he hadn’t proven my words true. He lied to Elizabeth about anything and everything. If someone lies about even the smallest things to you; you should know for sure that a- he doesn’t truly care. If he did, he wouldn’t lie and b- if he lies over the small things, you can pretty much guarantee that he will lie about the big things as well.

2. Abusive Personality: In order for a guy to be abusive, it is not necessary for him to lay his hands upon you physically. Mike never lifted a hand to Elizabeth, but someone who calls you names that are hurtful over and over again does not love you. This is sometimes a lot worse than physical abuse.

3. Very Controlling: Elizabeth always had to let Mike know where she was going, who with, and for how long at all times. This could be understood, in a way, if Mike had reasons of thinking that Elizabeth was cheating on him, however, this was not the case. He wanted to control everything. This is sometimes a sign of someone being very insecure or someone who is hiding what they are doing and feel that the other must be doing the same. This could become very bad after time goes by.

Had Elizabeth not found out about him being married, she would have went right back to him to suffer the same fate with her heart getting involved even deeper. There is one way to know for sure about someone. Performing a check to see if they have a marriage license will help you to know for sure if they are married. However, if they are only cheating with someone else, and not married, this will not help, but usually you can see the signs if your eyes are open. Checking for a marriage license and finding out is he married is a smart move before letting yourself get in too deep. It can save you a lot of heartache in the long run.
